BESA Leadership Academy hosts annual tours that are mainly academic based. Over the past six years, our learners have had the opportunity to tour various places both local and international. Our very first tour in 2010 was to Durban and included visits to the Kwazulu-Natal Sharks Board, Ushaka Marine World and Shakaland.
March/April of 2013 gave our sportsmen and sportswomen the opportunity to experience a 'very different' type of sports tour to the Caribbean. Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago were the three islands on which our learners spent the majority of their stay. Although it was mainly a 'sports' tour, the trip was open to all learners of all sporting abilities, where the emphasis was placed on enjoyment and team spirit while experiencing something unique such as playing sports at an exotic island location.
2012 brought about an art tour to Italy for our Grade 10 Visual Art learners. The tour included visits to the ruins of Ostia Antica and Palantine Hill, the famous Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps in Rome and The Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, which is the largest Catholic Marian church in Rome.
In 2011 our learners had the opportunity to tour England, Scotland and Wales. The tour visited famous historical sites such as Stonehenge, the Roman Baths, Hadrian's Wall and the Edinburgh Castle in Scotland. Other famous visits included The London Dungeon, Wimbledon, Chelsea Football Club, Buckingham Palace, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and the London Eye.
Throughout the year learners go on various educational outings with the intention of 'broadening their horizons' and exposing them to as much as possible. Previous excursions have included visits to The Johannesburg Art Gallery, Soccer City, The Apartheid Museum, Maropeng, The SABC, Rand Water Board and the recent Tutankhamun Exhibition at Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp. Other excursions also include Grade 10-12 Maths, Geography and Life Sciences camps.
