Extra-Curricular

Our extra-curricular program is secondary to academic work; as our primary focus is on preparing our learners for their educational futures. Therefore, our role in extra-mural activities is one of encouragement, with emphasis placed on participation and enjoyment, as opposed to pressurising our learners to perform and achieve outstanding results.

SPORTS AND RECREATION

We offer various sporting activities for our learners to participate in which are largely determined by interest. We currently offer soccer, netball, tennis, hockey, touch rugby (boys and girls), athletics (track and field), archery, E-sports, and non-competitive swimming, volleyball, and chess.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

We participate in eisteddfod, debating, and public speaking events throughout the year and pay specific attention to the World Scholars Cup - 2016 and 2017 saw our learners travel to Thailand and Cape Town respectively, representing South Africa at the finals. ANNUAL TOURS

Over the past ten years, our learners have had the opportunity to tour various places both locally and internationally. Previous destinations include Durban, Cape Town, Thailand, Singapore, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Barbados, and Trinidad and Tobago. Our most recent tour in 2024 saw our Life Sciences learners head up to Mpumalanga to visit the Kruger National Park! Check out their experience HERE.

CAMPS AND EXCURSIONS

Throughout the year our learners go on various educational outings with the intention of exposing them to new experiences while broadening their horizons in the process. Previous excursions include visits to The Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, Maropeng and Cradle of Humankind, The SABC, ABSA Towers, Gautrain, Pretoria prison, SAA Museum, and Sci-Bono Discovery Centre. Camps include Grade 12 Maths camp, Grade 11 Leadership Camp, and senior Life Sciences camps.

GENERAL ACTIVITIES

Other activities throughout the year include the Grade 12 Matric Farewell, the selection of a Leadership Body and Representative Council of Learners (RCL), CANSA Shavathon/Sprayathon, Walkerville Soapbox Derby as well as various school entrepreneurial days and social fundraising events. We also visit many different charity organisations and raise funds where possible to assist the greater community.
